How Technology Connects Us

Three steps forward, two steps back; this is the way of our world these days. We're filled with hope that we'll be able to gather in-person one day — only to pivot our event communications and strategy plans the very next day.

Our plans are full of uncertainty in the coming months, and we know that audiences are growing tired of connecting digitally as they have in the past. People are longing for human interaction, and technology can help facilitate this need.

Within the last year and a half, we delivered hundreds of digital engagements, each crafted and customized to effectively connect brands with their audiences. With those experiences, we learned a lot along the way. Our experts pulled together the top five best practices from our most recent work.

Networking and Community
An advantage to networking and fostering a community virtually is that it gives every attendee an opportunity to have a “front row seat” and access to connect with others that in-person events don’t always allow. Use proximity-based technology to facilitate conversations within digital spaces like a virtual lobby bar or a “matchmaking” service. Also check out a few best practices when building a virtual community.

Real-Time Data
Digital events give us greater ability to gather insights and trends on our attendees’ behavior, preferences and interests that are more challenging to collect in-person. Employ creative data gathering and analytics in the moment to redefine deep audience personas and to inform your onsite and future marketing strategies.

Untether Your Audience
“Zoom fatigue,” “Zoom gloom” ... we’ve heard them all—pushing us to find new, innovative ways to connect with our audiences. Design your content to "meet your audience" away from the screen. Consider audio-centric or flexible streaming experiences. Podcasts are an extremely popular, on-demand tool that is convenient, effective and often budget-friendly.

Do More With 5G
Pave the way for more impactful content delivery, both in-person and digitally. By embracing and planning for 5G, brands will be ready to deliver personalized and immersive experiences that maximize marketing creativity, audience engagement and business impact. Learn more: How 5G Will Enable Better Audience Engagement at Events

Immersive Environments
If you must deliver your content on a digital platform, create custom digital 3D environments that empower your audience to playfully explore, learn and engage with your content. Adding a gamification element to the experience can also increase attention. InVision’s Connection Zone offers a deeper look into how to create immersive environments.
